Summary:

Bennet Taylor is a young woman who has found herself living in New York after a tragic accident that left her feeling guilty. Suffering from depression and anxiety, Bennet has given up on love and her passions in life. That is, until she stumbles upon Henry Adams, a date she ghosted but can’t seem to ignore. Upon meeting, Henry puts Bennet first, by encouraging to help her find love and passion again. But once they get to know each other, secrets are spilled and they must ask themselves if either are ready to move forward.

Qualities:

Prose: The novel has a comedic, down to earth feeling that makes the story and the characters human and relatable. The word choices, descriptions, metaphors, and dialogue come across as sensational and trust worthy as the story progresses. Bennet Taylor’s voice is unique, tragic, but heart warming, and lyrical.

Character Development: The book is told through Bennet Taylor’s point of view as she journeys through her life in New York. Through Bennet, we learn of her friends and family, including Henry and his family. The character development is equally focused on both Bennet and Henry as they travel the city together.

World Building: The world building grows alongside the characters. Many different places in New York City like monuments, stores, and the city culture are described and express their importance as the characters grow. The characters venture beyond the city, encouraging a wider range of world building and character development.

Recommendation:

I highly recommend this book to someone who is interested in a unique, reliable, relatable, and comical character; a character who is also learning how to heal and be free of past mistakes. As beautiful and caring as this book is, it is also tragic but definitely worth the read. The dynamic between Bennet and Henry cannot be missed!
