Summary:
Since the war and her exposure of the Cauldron’s powers, Nesta Archeron has yet to learn how to yield them. But she is determined to keep them at bay with alcohol and lust. But that doesn’t last long when she is warned by Rhysand and Ferye, king and queen of The Night Court, to live in the House of Wind, work for the Priestesses, and train with Cassian. Otherwise, she is forced back to the human lands. Unhappy but with little choice, Nesta makes the decision to stay close to everyone she’s been avoiding, and her strange feelings for Cassian.
Qualities:
Prose: The book is lyrically written, and the details of the fantastic realms make it feel airy yet tense, with an allure.
Character Development: The book follows Nesta, the oldest Archeron sister, and Cassian. Nesta grows and heals as her angry past and guilt of her father's death drive her to strive for better. Her connection with the House of Wind, the Priestesses, and Cassian’s affection prove to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
World Building: The world-building starts small, focusing on Nesta and Cassian’s lives. Gradually, as the two are forced to work together, the city of Velaris, the House of Wind, the Illyrian camps and mountains, are introduced.
Recommendation:
This book is recommended if you are interested in catching up on Nesta and Cassian’s relationship, the other characters, and the aftermath of the war. The book sheds a lot of light on Nestra, primarily, and encourages the reader to understand who she is, her struggles with her new, dangerous powers, and how she overcomes her anger and fears.
